FAQs
- 01Occupational Therapy (OT) focuses on enhancing the ability of the individual to participate in activities of daily living that are meaningful to them. These are activities that they need and want to do across various environments including the home, learning and community environments. For children and adolescents, these activities (occupations) may include self-care tasks (e.g. brushing teeth, getting dressed, toileting), handwriting, throwing/catching a ball, riding a bike, tying shoelaces, making friends, and playing. To support engagement and participation in their chosen occupations, occupational therapists will work with the individual to develop their fine and gross motor skills, sensory processing and regulation. OT's also explore how the task or environment can be modified to support participation.
- 02At Nurtured Steps OT, we understand that every child develops at their own pace, but certain signs may indicate that Occupational Therapy could be beneficial. You might consider seeking OT services if your child experiences difficulties with fine motor skills, such as grasping or manipulating objects, struggles with coordination or balance, has challenges with daily tasks like dressing or feeding, or shows sensory processing issues such as over- or under-reactivity to sounds, textures, or movement. Our approach focuses on nurturing confidence through playful, individualised steps, ensuring that therapy feels engaging and supportive. If you notice your child avoiding activities typical for their age or exhibiting delays in motor or sensory skills, contacting Nurtured Steps OT for an evaluation can help identify specific needs and create a tailored plan to support your child’s development.
